An Overview of the Basic Functions of the iPad for the Classroom

The home button has two main functions. Firstly click once at any time to return to the home screen. Secondly double click to open a tray that displays all running Apps. To close any of the Apps tap and hold any of the Apps in the tray until they "shiver" click the red cross and the App will close. This does not delete the App only close it.
Safari is the default internet browser on your iPad. This acts exactly as a browser on any computer. You can access images, information and video just as you can on any computer.
Use as a research tool for students.
Students can access any images and save to the camera roll. They can then use these in a variety of Apps.
Use videos to engage students before any learning.
Tap this and you will access all the music and audio files that you have on your iPad including any audio books and listening post files.
Add your listening post files and the students can listen straight from the iPad or connect your listening post direct to the iPad.
This Photos button is where you will find all your photos and videos that you have taken with the iPad. In here you will find the camera roll which you will often be automatically directed to when adding a photo using other Apps.
The camera is one of the most valuable functions on the iPad. You have the option to take still photos and record videos. These will be stored on the iPad in the camera roll.
Use the camera as an assessment tool to record students reading, performing or explaining a mathematical idea. The possibilities are endless.
Students can record a video of a play or performance and edit using iMovie. See Classroom Apps for the Classroom.
Students can record an excursion and use the footage to write a recount when they get back to school(or on the bus on the way home).
Tap this to find any iBooks on your iPad and any PDF files. You will see in the top left it will say books. Tap this and underneath it will say PDF. Tap PDF for any of your PDF files.
Add any PDF copies of articles and students can read them on the iPad.
